1. General Conference Information
When and where will CESRAN2027 take place?
The 14th Annual Conference on International Studies (CESRAN2027) will take place on 6–9 July 2027 in Budapest, Hungary. Both on-site and online participation options are planned. Detailed venue and access arrangements will be communicated through official conference channels.
Who organises the conference?
CESRAN2027 is organised by CESRAN International in collaboration with the Contemporary Arab World Centre at the Faculty of Humanities, ELTE Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest.
Who can participate?
The conference welcomes academics, researchers, doctoral candidates, policymakers, civil society representatives, professionals, and practitioners interested in International Studies. Participation is open to paper presenters, panel and roundtable contributors, co-authors, and audience members without a paper.
What is the conference language?
English is the official conference language. Proposals, presentations, and conference academic materials should be prepared in English.
2. Abstracts, Panels and Roundtables
How do I submit a proposal?
Applicants should submit their proposals through the official Application Form. Proposals should include the title, abstract, up to six keywords, author names and affiliations, contact details, and a short biographical statement for each participant.
What submission formats are accepted?
CESRAN2027 welcomes individual paper submissions, organised panel proposals, and roundtable proposals. Scholarly research and policy analyses addressing International Studies broadly are encouraged.
How long should an abstract be?
Abstracts must not exceed 500 words. They should identify the research question, methodological approach, main assumptions or argument, and expected findings or contribution. Applicants may provide up to six keywords.
What are the requirements for an organised panel?
Panel proposals should address a coherent theme and normally include four or five papers, with an identified chair. A discussant may also be proposed. Panel sessions normally last approximately 90 minutes.
What are the requirements for a roundtable?
Roundtables facilitate focused discussion of a common academic or policy issue without requiring formal paper presentations. A roundtable should include a minimum of four and a maximum of six participants, plus a chair.
Can I submit more than one paper?
Yes. Participants may present a maximum of two accepted papers, subject to scheduling arrangements. The second paper is subject to the applicable Additional Paper fee.
How are submissions evaluated?
Submissions are assessed by the conference programme committee for academic relevance, clarity, originality, and contribution to the conference. Where appropriate, individual papers may be grouped into interdisciplinary panels.
When will I receive an acceptance decision?
Submissions are reviewed on a rolling basis, with acceptance notifications beginning in November 2026. Decisions are normally communicated within approximately 14–21 days. Submissions received close to the final abstract deadline will be reviewed on an expedited basis, with final acceptance notifications issued by 10 May 2027.
Is a completed research paper required before the conference?
A completed research article is not required at the abstract application stage. Under the proposed CESRAN2027 arrangements, general participants are not required to submit a full-length manuscript before the conference. However, recipients of Early Career Researcher Registration Support must submit a 1,500–2,000-word working paper by 31 May 2027.
3. Registration, Fees and Payment
When is the registration deadline?
The final registration deadline is 25 May 2027. Presenters must complete registration and payment by this date for their accepted contributions to be included in the conference programme and abstract book.
What are the registration fees?
The CESRAN2027 registration fees are listed below. All amounts are in euros (EUR). The applicable rate is determined by the payment date, except where fee-tier protection applies under the Registration Support Programme.
| Category | Early Bird Until 31 Jan |
Regular Feb–Mar |
Late 1 Apr–25 May |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard Participant | €150 | €175 | €200 |

| Additional Paper | €100 | €125 | €150 |
| Audience (without paper) | €75 | €100 | €125 |
How do I complete registration?
Presenters should first receive confirmation of acceptance. They should then confirm the applicable registration category and current fee, complete payment using the officially published instructions, and email their payment receipt to the organisers for verification. Registration is confirmed only after the payment has been verified.
Where can I find the bank transfer details?
The official EUR bank account details, beneficiary information, and SWIFT/BIC code are published on the
Registration page.
Participants should verify the latest payment instructions before making a transfer.
What should I write in the bank transfer reference?
Participants should enter only their Name and Surname in the payment reference or description field, as instructed on the Registration page. A copy of the transfer receipt should be retained and provided to the organisers.
Do all authors need to register?
Yes. All authors seeking inclusion in the official conference programme and abstract book must complete the applicable registration requirements. A co-authored paper may be presented by one registered author, but co-authors seeking formal participation must register under the appropriate category.
Are online participation fees different?
Online participation is planned for CESRAN2027. The applicable online fee arrangements should be confirmed with the Organising Committee before payment. Only fees officially published or confirmed by the organisers are binding.
4. Cancellation, Refunds and Transaction Fees
Important: Registration involves advance administrative and organisational commitments. Participants should carefully review the cancellation conditions before making payment.
What is the cancellation and refund policy?
Participant-initiated cancellation requests received in writing on or before 31 March 2027 may qualify for a partial refund after deduction of a €75 administrative cancellation charge and actual, documented, non-recoverable transaction costs, to the extent permitted by applicable law.
For participant-initiated cancellations received on or after 1 April 2027, registration fees are non-refundable except where applicable law requires otherwise.
Who pays bank transfer and transaction charges?
Participants are responsible for applicable bank transfer charges and transaction expenses associated with their payments, subject to applicable law. They should arrange payment so that the full required registration amount reaches the conference account. Any additional payment charges imposed by the organisers must comply with applicable payment regulations and be disclosed before payment.
Will transaction fees be deducted from my refund?
For eligible voluntary cancellations, actual and documented non-recoverable payment processing expenses may be deducted from the refundable amount where legally permissible. These may include bank charges, payment gateway commissions, and refund transfer costs.
These costs are separate from the administrative cancellation charge. No expense will be deducted twice. Deductions will not exceed the amount otherwise eligible for refund, and no deductions will be applied where a full refund is required by applicable law.
What if my visa application is refused?
Visa refusal does not automatically entitle a participant to a refund. Participants are responsible for completing visa procedures sufficiently in advance. Where feasible, the Organising Committee may approve a change from on-site to online participation. Such a change does not automatically create an entitlement to a refund of the difference in registration fees.
What if I cannot attend due to illness or travel disruption?
Illness, travel disruption, changes in personal circumstances, and non-attendance do not automatically entitle a participant to a refund. Documented exceptional cases may be reviewed individually, without limiting any rights available under applicable law.
What happens if the organisers cancel the conference?
If CESRAN2027 is cancelled or materially altered by the organisers, participants will be informed of the available arrangements and remedies, including refunds where required by applicable law. Nothing in this policy limits mandatory statutory rights.
How do I request cancellation?
Cancellation requests must be submitted in writing to
conference@cesran.org.
The date on which the request is received determines the applicable cancellation period. Approved refunds will be processed through an appropriate payment channel.
5. Early Career Researcher Registration Support
Up to 30 awards | €100 each | Working paper deadline: 31 May 2027
Does CESRAN2027 provide financial support?
CESRAN2027 offers up to 30 partial registration fee waivers of €100 each to eligible PhD candidates and early-career researchers. Awards reduce the Standard Participant registration fee and are available for both on-site and online participation. They are not cash grants and do not cover travel, accommodation, or visa expenses.
Who is eligible?
Applicants must be PhD candidates or researchers who completed their PhD within the previous five years. Selection considers academic merit and financial need. Applicants must have an accepted proposal before the award is confirmed and must agree to present their research and submit the required working paper.
When can I apply for registration support?
The programme has two application rounds. The first application deadline is 15 December 2026, with decisions announced on 5 January 2027. The second deadline is 15 February 2027, with decisions announced on 1 March 2027. Please consult the Registration Support page for full application requirements.
What is the working paper requirement?
Successful support recipients must submit an English-language working paper of 1,500–2,000 words, excluding references, by 31 May 2027. The paper should outline the research question, relevant literature or theory, methodology, preliminary findings or central argument, and conclusion.
Working papers should be emailed in DOCX or PDF format to
conference@cesran.org
with the subject line CESRAN2027 Working Paper – Full Name.
Will my working paper be published?
No. Working papers may be used confidentially for conference academic preparation but will not be publicly published or deposited in a repository without the author’s explicit consent. A working paper is not automatically treated as a journal submission.
Can the support be combined with other discounts?
No. Registration support cannot be combined with other conference discounts or transferred to another participant. It does not apply to Co-author, Audience, or Additional Paper fees. Normally, only one recipient may receive support for the same accepted paper.

6. Publication Opportunities
Does conference participation guarantee publication?
No. Acceptance of a conference proposal and payment of registration fees do not guarantee publication in an academic journal or edited volume. Any subsequent publication requires a separate submission and evaluation process.
Are there opportunities to develop conference papers for publication?
Yes. Authors may develop their conference presentations into full-length research articles and consider submitting them to CESRAN-affiliated journals, including The Rest: Journal of Politics and Development and Novus Orbis: Journal of Politics and International Relations, or to other appropriate journals. All manuscripts are subject to independent editorial assessment and peer review.
7. Conference Programme and Presentations
How long is a paper presentation?
Individual paper presentations should normally last approximately 10–15 minutes. Final time allocations are determined by session chairs and may vary depending on the panel format and number of speakers.
When will the conference programme be available?
The preliminary conference programme is scheduled for publication on 10 June 2027, followed by the final programme on 25 June 2027. Subsequent changes will be communicated to affected participants.
Can I request a particular presentation time?
Participants with unavoidable scheduling constraints should contact the Organising Committee as early as possible. Requests will be considered where feasible, but particular dates or times cannot be guaranteed.
Will I receive a certificate?
Certificates of participation or presentation are expected to be available to eligible registered participants following verification of their participation. The Organising Committee will communicate the applicable arrangements.
8. Travel, Accommodation and Visas
Does the conference provide accommodation or travel funding?
Participants are responsible for arranging and financing their travel and accommodation in Budapest unless a separate arrangement has been expressly confirmed by the organisers. The Early Career Researcher Registration Support Programme provides a partial registration fee reduction, not travel funding.
Can I request a visa invitation letter?
Participants requiring documentation for a visa application should contact the Organising Committee. Requests are subject to administrative verification and the conference’s applicable procedures. An invitation letter does not guarantee visa approval.
Can I change from on-site to online participation?
Requests to change participation mode should be submitted in writing as early as possible. Changes are subject to technical and scheduling feasibility and approval by the Organising Committee. Approval does not automatically entitle a participant to a refund of any difference in registration fees.
