About the Programme

CESRAN International is pleased to offer the CESRAN2027 Early Career Researcher Registration Support Programme as part of the 14th Annual Conference on International Studies, taking place in Budapest, Hungary, on 6–9 July 2027.

The programme provides up to 30 partial registration fee waivers of €100 each to eligible PhD candidates and early-career researchers who demonstrate financial need and academic potential.

Beyond financial assistance, the programme seeks to strengthen academic preparation, encourage research development, and create opportunities for scholarly engagement before, during, and after the conference.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must satisfy all of the following conditions:

  • Be enrolled in a PhD programme or have been awarded a PhD within the preceding five years.
  • Have submitted an abstract to CESRAN2027. An award can only be confirmed following acceptance of the abstract.
  • Demonstrate limited access to institutional, project-based, or other funding for conference participation.
  • Commit to presenting their accepted research at CESRAN2027, either on-site or online.
  • Agree to prepare and submit a 1,500–2,000-word working paper by 31 May 2027.

Applications are particularly encouraged from researchers facing significant financial barriers to international academic participation.

What Does the Support Cover?

€100 Registration Fee Reduction

Successful applicants receive a €100 reduction in the applicable
Standard Participant registration fee.
The award is applied directly to the registration payment and is not paid in cash.

The support applies to both on-site and online participation.
It does not cover travel, accommodation, visa expenses, additional paper fees, or other personal costs.

The award is non-transferable, cannot be combined with other CESRAN registration discounts, and is limited to one recipient per accepted paper.
It does not apply to Co-author or Audience registration categories.

Mandatory Working Paper Requirement

As a condition of receiving registration support, successful applicants must submit a working paper based on their accepted conference presentation before the conference takes place.

This requirement is designed to encourage substantive academic preparation and enable participants to benefit more fully from panel discussions and scholarly feedback.

Submission deadline: 31 May 2027

Length: 1,500–2,000 words, excluding references

Language: English

Format: Microsoft Word (.docx) or PDF

Required elements:

  • Research question and significance
  • Relevant literature and theoretical or conceptual framework
  • Methodology or analytical approach, where applicable
  • Central argument, preliminary findings, or expected contribution
  • Conclusion and references

Submission:
Email the working paper to conference@cesran.org with the subject line
CESRAN2027 Working Paper – Full Name.

A working paper is a developmental research document and is not expected to meet the full requirements of a peer-reviewed research article.
Preliminary findings and work in progress are welcome.

Working papers will not be published online, deposited in a public repository, or otherwise distributed publicly without the author’s separate explicit consent.
They may be shared confidentially with relevant conference organisers and panel chairs for academic preparation and feedback.

Publication Development Opportunities

Following CESRAN2027, recipients are encouraged to revise and expand their working papers in light of the feedback received during the conference.

Researchers may choose to develop their papers into full-length research articles and consider submission to CESRAN-affiliated journals, including
The Rest: Journal of Politics and Development and
Novus Orbis: Journal of Politics and International Relations,
or to other suitable scholarly journals.

Important: Submission of a full research article is voluntary.
Registration support does not guarantee publication, manuscript acceptance, preferential editorial treatment, or a favourable peer-review outcome.
All submissions to academic journals remain subject to their independent editorial decisions, journal policies, and established peer-review procedures.

Application and Selection Process

Registration support will be awarded through a competitive assessment conducted by the CESRAN2027 Organising Committee.

Applications will be considered with reference to:

  • The academic quality and relevance of the proposed conference paper.
  • The applicant’s demonstrated financial need and access to alternative funding.
  • The potential contribution of the applicant’s participation to an inclusive and internationally diverse research community.

Applicants must provide their conference application reference, current academic status, a brief financial need statement of no more than 200 words, and confirmation of their willingness to meet the working paper requirement.
