The 8th International Conference on Eurasian Politics and Society was organised by CESRAN International, Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa, and OBSERVARE on 22-24 September 2021 in Lisbon, Portugal.
The conference hosted 10 scholarly panel sessions, 5 Keynote Speech sessions, 2 book discussion sessions, and opening/closing sessions.
IEPAS2021 started with the welcome addresses of Professor Rahman Dag (Deputy Director-General, CESRAN International), Professor Luis Tome (Scientific coordinator, OBSERVARE-UAL), Professor Luís Nuno Rodrigues (Director of CEI-IUL), and Professor Murat Cemrek (Necmettin Erbakan University). This was followed by the keynote lecture of a distinguished scholar, Professor Ken Booth (Honorary President, CESRAN International).
The first book discussion session featured Dr Sören Urbansky’s scholarly monograph, “Beyond the Steppe Frontier: A History of the Sino-Russian Border” (Princeton University Press, 2020).
The second book discussion session featured Dr Jonathan Laurence’s scholarly monograph, “Coping with Defeat: Sunni Islam, Roman Catholicism, and the Modern State” (Princeton University Press, 2021).
In the scholarly panels, in total 48 papers were presented by 64 participants. The conference ended with a closing ceremony and a post-conference evaluation meeting.
